Thanks to you Epiphanie has a new life!

Recently married, 19 year-old Epiphanie was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first child and motherhood. Her joy turned to sorrow when she found herself facing unexpected challenges. After enduring 2 days of labor at home, Epiphanie was referred to a small health center where her baby was stillborn. Her loss was compounded by humiliation when she lost control of her bladder.

Devastated by the loss of her son and now suffering from constant incontinence, Epiphanie returned to the center and faced the harsh reality she had a fistula due to complications during labor. She required surgery, the cost was beyond their means. Despite her suffering, her husband remained silent, leaving her to endure months of isolation from family and friends.

A chance encounter with a fistula survivor brought hope. Learning of ARENA in Ouagadougou and hearing firsthand accounts of successful treatment, Epiphanie was encouraged and traveled 171 miles in search of healing.

Epiphanie reflects on her journey with gratitude. It’s not just physical healing she found at ARENA. Through their reintegration programs, she discovered the joy of beadwork, a skill that promised to empower her with the ability to earn income when she returned home.

My clothes are dry again. My inner person has changed, and I am happy with myself.

Now healed, she’s grateful for the support she received and eager to become an advocate for other women in need.
